Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (we prefer 93% lean ground beef)
  • ¼ cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • In a sauté pan over medium heat add the ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper. Sauté for 4 minutes.
  • Add the garlic to the sauté pan and continue cooking until the juices of the meat run clear, which will take 3-5 more minutes. Drain the meat if needed.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, granulated sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, dried parsley, dried basil, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
  • Turn the burner down to low to medium and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes with the lid on. Leave a little room for air to escape, and occasionally stir throughout.
  • Serve with cooked pasta and top with parsley.

Notes

  • To store: You can keep the leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • To reheat: Place a serving size in a microwave safe dish and heat until warmed throughout. You can also reheat this on the stovetop, stir and heat until it is warm.
  • To freeze: This is a great sauce to freeze, as it will keep for 3 months in the freezer.
