  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a medium bowl or jar. Whisk or shake together before using.

Notes

  • How to use: Add 2-3 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning and ½ cup of water to 1 to 1 ¼ pounds of cooked ground beef. Stir well, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes before serving. If using with ground turkey or ground chicken, you might want to decrease the amount used to 2 tablespoons so the spices aren't overpowering.
  • Storage: Keeps for 6 months in an airtight container in the pantry. Use a resealable glass jar with a lid to store if you are making this taco seasoning recipe in bulk. Sometimes the odors or flavor plastic containers, where glass contains them better.
  • Adding cornstarch: If you want a silkier texture to your taco meat, try adding 1 teaspoon of cornstarch to the recipe. It will thicken any liquid added along with the seasoning for more of a silky coating that many people enjoy.
